Hemp is a great and powerful plant which is converted to make the next generations of cannabinoids for different purposes, treatments, remedies, etc. For people who are new to alt-cannabinoids, it must be difficult to choose between delta 8, delta 9, HHC, THC-O, THC-P, etc., and so many compounds that induce different effects.

There is a huge variety of hemp-derived cannabinoids, but new cannabinoids such as THCP and THCO have created waves in the market. Do you want to know what the difference between these two is and which is worth your money? Read on to this article!

What is THC-O?

THC-O is the ester form of THC. It is actually the name for THC, which changes at the molecular level with the addition of acetic anhydride and sulfuric acid. For this compound, people use two names: THCO Acetate and THC-O. However, THC-O is delta-9 as well as delta-8 with minor changes.

This cannabinoid was first used between 1955 and 1975. THC-O works astonishingly due to the way its molecules are put together. The THC-O version has an acetate molecule, but the delta-9 version does not. It is crucial to recall that THC-O cannot be prepared anywhere other than the lab.

What is THC-P?

It is another part of THC-P analog. The natural cannabinoid THCP is found in hemp plants but in lower concentrations as compared to THC. It is a different form of THC as it has one extra pair of carbon atoms in its chemical structure. However, it is one of the most useful cannabinoids that made its way to the hemp industry.

THC-O vs THC-P: The Main Difference

Both compounds are analogs of delta-9 THC which means they have a similar structure but act distinctively in your body and offer different levels of psychoactive experience.

  1. THC-O is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid and does not produce naturally in hemp. It is also a pro-active cannabinoid which means it becomes fully functional after metabolization process. On the other hand, THC-P is stronger and more effective. It is naturally found in hemp plants and is already active before entering your body.
  2. THC-P is a more effective cannabinoid as compared to THC-O. On average, it is twice potent as THC-O and around 10 times stronger than delta-9. On the contrary, THC-O is around two to three times stronger than delta-9.
  3. High quantities of THC-O cause hallucination and have some potential psychedelic effect, which leads to notable visual distortions and a heightened emotional state. Anyhow, the exact reason for this response is still unknown.
  4. Both cannabinoids are not suggested and are not suitable for beginners because strong euphoria and mental effects are associated with them. Some side effects are visible in initial users, such as panic, anxiety as well as physical sensations. However, we suggest sticking to delta-9 for the sake of controllable feelings.
  5. THC-O and THC-P have similar advantages. They can help reduce stress and cause relaxing effects at controlled and lower doses. They could also alleviate pain, sleep problems as well as inflammation. Conversely, high doses can lead to stress and anxiety disorders.

How do THC-O and THC-P Work?

These cannabinoids primarily interact with the human endocannabinoid system, a complex biological network. It is responsible for regulating and managing core functions such as mood, appetite, sleep, and body temperature.

THC-O and THCP mainly target CB1 or cannabinoid receptors present in the central nervous system and brain. These receptors not only trigger a euphoric high but also contributes to certain health advantages such as:

  • Mental and physical relaxation
  • Pain relief
  • Sleep promotions
  • Anti-inflammation

Will THC-O Get you Higher Than THC-P?

As you know, THC-P is twice potent as compared to THC-O and 10 times more powerful than delta-9. Moreover, THCP is 15 times more effective and powerful than delta-8 THC. Hence, THC-O will not get you as high as THCP.

Despite all its powerful properties, THCP does not cause hallucinations or psychological effects such as THC-O in any dose.

The anecdotal advocates suggest that THC-P causes non-psychedelic like delta-9. Moreover, there effects also depend on the product type:

Oil and tinctures: In oil and other tinctures, these cannabinoids are placed sublingually, which takes time to show effects in your body. You may start to feel THC-P’s effects within 20 to 30 minutes. THCO’s effects may start in a matter of an hour.

Vape carts: THC-O and THC-P vape carts can cause you instant highs because they directly enter into your bloodstream through your lungs. They do not even involve the metabolism process. THCP effects will begin within 10 minutes, whereas THC-O might take around 20 minutes.

Gummies: THCP and THCO gummies are ingested orally. They have to pass through the metabolism system, so it will consume around 30 to 60 minutes to show effects in the body. The experts suggest consuming only half a gram of gum before taking more.

Conclusion

THC-P and THC-O, both hemp cannabinoids, are new and still in their infancy. There is a lot to research about them that we should know before excessive or even controlled consumption.

Therefore, you should only purchase THC-O and THC-P from legitimate vendors who are specialized in rare cannabinoids. Despite all, it is suggested to avoid consuming THCO and THCP if you have no experience with cannabinoids.
