For a pretty long time in history, the cannabinoid plant has been known to mankind. Although not known through its exact name, but it was widely used. It was first discovered in 2800 BC, which is a pretty long time. At the beginning and even today, cannabinoid has been widely used because of its medicinal properties. The use of this plant originated from Central Asia and Western China. It was first documented through the pharmacopoeia of Emperor Shen Nung.

The therapeutic indications of cannabinoids can be found in the texts of Greeks, Romans, and even Indian Hindus. Today it is produced in mass for recreation and medicinal purposes. Read this article to learn about cannabinoids, their role in the Endocannabinoid System, and much more. Let’s dive right into it.

What Are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a group of substances that are found in plants. They are basically every single chemical substance that joins the cannabinoid receptors present in the brain and the body. They have similar effects to those which are produced by Hemp Sativa Plant.

Based on former research and studies, it was found that the plant where it is found produces around about 300 non-cannabinoid chemicals and somewhere between 80-100 cannabinoid chemicals.

Types of Cannabinoids

There are various types of Cannabinoids that you can find in the world. Generally, Cannabinoids are of three major types, recreational, medicinal, and synthetic. Following are more classified ways of looking at Cannabinoids.

  1. Halter – the dried leaves and flowers (buds) of the plant where cannabinoid is found. They are the most common type among all and are smoked in a bong or a joint.
  2. Hemp – This is the fiber of the very plant where cannabinoid is extracted. It is obtained from the stem and used to make rope, paper, fabrics, etc.
  3. Cannabinoids for medicinal use РThis includes pharmaceutical cannabinoid products which are approved by TGA, Therapeutic Goods Administration. Some examples of these are synthetic cannabinoids like Dronabinol® and nabiximols (Sativex®).
  4. HU-210 is a synthetic counterpart of THC that was initially created during the 1980s in Israel and is thought to have a minimum of 100 times the potency that THC carries.
  5. UR-144, which has effects comparable to those of THC but is a little less intense.
  6. Dr. John W. Huffman developed a group of synthetic cannabinoids called JWH in 1994 for research on cannabinoid receptors.
  7. 5F-ADB was initially discovered in late 2014 from post-mortem samples acquired from a person who had passed away after taking a product containing this compound.
  8. CUMYL-PEGACLONE first appeared on the German medicine market in late 2016. 9 According to anecdotal accounts, CUML-PEGACLONE may have a variety of adverse side effects.

What Is Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system, or what is more commonly known as ECS, consists of an extensive network of chemical signals and cellular receptors which are closely and compactly packed within all throughout our brains and bodies. The cannabinoid receptors within the brain outnumber most other different kinds of receptors of the brain.

Their main objective is to control the activity of other neurotransmitters. Through this, they regulate things like making you feel hungry or thirsty or increasing your level of alertness. Our bodies produce a molecule called endocannabinoids with the primary goal of stimulating these receptors. These have similarities in terms of structure to the molecules found in the plant cannabinoid.

What Does The ECS Consist Of?

The ECS consists of 3 major components. These are enzymes, receptors, and endocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids

These are also known as endogenous cannabinoids and are molecules found in your body. They are somewhat like Cannabinoids, but they are produced by our bodies.

Endocannabinoids Receptors

They are found throughout the body and interact or bind with endocannabinoids after they make the signal that endocannabinoid system has to start its action. There are two receptors, They are called CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Enzymes

The main function of an enzyme is to break up the endocannabinoids after their task has been finished. There are two main enzymes.

  • Monoacylglycerol acid lipase
  • Fatty acid amide hydrolase

How Does Cannabinoid Interact With ECS And What Role It Plays

Now we are going to learn about how delta 8, which is a type of cannabinoid found in the hemp plant, works in the endocannabinoid system. Delta 8, just like any other type of cannabinoid, produces different kinds of effects within the human body. As soon as delta 8 interacts with ECS receptors within the brain and body, you can feel a number of effects, including:

  • Uplifted
  • Focused
  • Relaxed
  • Euphoric

CB1 And Delta 8

CB1 receptors can be found in the spinal cord and brain. According to research, delta 8 produces psychotropic effects when it interacts with the CB1 receptors of the endocannabinoid system. This is the reason behind cognitive distortions and increased euphoria when you take Delta 8.

CB2 And Delta 8

CB2 receptors are relatively more commonly found in the peripheral nervous system of a human body. They are found in the digestive and immune tissues and can potentially help with three things when interacting with delta 8. Decrease tumors, reduce nausea, and stimulate hungriness.
